ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Department of Science & Technology (DST) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India is a pioneering agency in the country promoting new areas of Science & Technology and also plays the role of a nodal department for organising, coordinating and promoting S&T activities in the country. The Department has several specific projects for promotion of Management Information Systems for Science and Technology and coordination thereof; Promotion of Science and Technology at the State, District, and Village levels for grass- roots development; Application of Science and Technology for weaker sections, women and other disadvantaged sections of Society.
The Mobile Eldercare Unit (MEU) programme is a pilot project in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh supported by DST. This initiative aims to develop and introduce low cost Health MIS software and integrating this into a mobile clinical setup. The software will be used extensively to capture beneficiary baseline information viz. Socio-economic and health profile, diagnosis and treatment data as well as treatment history.
The objectives of the pilot project include:
Develop and Demonstrate low cost technology that can be replicated through out
To provide preventive and curative health care through a combination of different systems of treatment
To provide material among target group to remain physically and mentally fit
Counselling services to the target groups
To provide information on elder-friendly policies, programmes and schemes of government and private organisations
The Medical Team consists of a Doctor, Lab Technician, Physiotherapist, Counsellor, Pharmacist and a driver cum social worker.
